My friends Dusan Jaukovic and Jelena Malesevic at Morfium Couture sent me this fabulous new editorial ‘Arche Trip’ starring model Sofi Milo. A big smile lit up my face looking at the images and reading the text. Dusan wrote:

… while we were working on this story, we were thinking of you because we were traveling back to our beginnings of inspiration — archetype. We were inspired by prehistorical Balkan tribes and their fascination with triangles, circles, spirals and all that cosmic geometry in their minds and spirits.

All that pottery was made by women expressing themselves like artists as part of their everyday duties. We assume the clothes must also have reflected these same geometric shapes. So ‘ArcheTrip’ brings that prehistoric women to life again, 21st century style at Morfium Couture.

Morfium’s designer Jelena Malesevic and her partner, photographer Dusan Jaukovic are headed to America soon for business. We have enjoyed a special relationship from the beginning, as Dusan references in his comments about archetypes.

I wrote them back:

This is great! It’s modern yet tribal. It picks up the graphics and black and white theme that dominates the fashion magazines but in a way that’s very fresh. This saturation of pop art graphics ages quickly. These shots remind me of what Hedi Slimane wants to do at YSL but he is more retro. Clearly you two are in touch with the goddesses — like YSL and Versace, too. Karl Lagerfeld doesn’t channel goddesses — or he’s not on their hit list, as we are.

These images are very of the moment, yet full of the tribal and warrior woman references that give meaning to clothes. ‘ArcheTrip’ is on trend but not in a copycat way. The looks feel very rich in message and meaning to me. Love them! ~ Anne
